My Villa Pia Holiday with Doris Tydeman
Can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do?
My name is Doris Tydeman and I work as a Project Manager at YCN in London.
How long have you been holidaying at Villa Pia?
I’ve been going to Villa Pia as long as I can remember! I think the first time I have a clear memory from must have been when I was about 10 – 11 years old. I did my first long stint at Villa Pia when I was 16, and worked as a baby-sitter for a month with a best friend of mine. One of the best month’s ever! Since then I have worked there as a babysitter when I was a bit older with another friend of mine – another fantastic trip.
What do you find special about this place?
What’s special about Villa Pia is how relaxed everyone is who’s there, and that they’re all on exactly the same page. Everyone at Villa Pia is just there to have the most wonderful, relaxing time, and that creates an amazing atmosphere.
How did you discover Villa Pia?
I know Villa Pia through my family, my mum and Morag are really old friends!
What is your favourite time of year to visit?
I think late summer is my favourite time to visit, it’s still lovely and warm, but there’s also the prospect of the very occasional thunderstorm – which are over really quickly but are so exciting!
I don’t have any children, but having worked as a babysitter then, and spent hours interacting with the children who go there, it’s definitely a fantastic place to take children. I know that when I do have my own we’ll definitely have to go on a few Villa Pia holidays!
What is the best thing on the Villa Pia menu?
There’s no favourite thing on the Villa Pia menu – the food is genuinely one of my favourite things! (The best food i’ve ever eaten!)
What things do you like doing outside the villa?
While i’ve been at Villa Pia I love going to the local markets and looking at all the stuff you can take home, you can find some great (and also tacky!) gifts to take home.
Who do you think Villa Pia is best suited for?
I think Villa Pia is best suited to families with young children, and that it’s less suited to teenagers. If you’re a family with young kids, I do think it must just be perfect.
What will be your best or most entertaining memories of Villa Pia?
My favourite memories of Villa Pia mostly involve a lot of laughing, enjoying great food, drinking a bit too much wine and a lot of hilarity!
