Easy Italian Recipe for Meat Sauce
Here in Italy, to say that food is a big part of our lives is something of an understatement!
It’s certainly an essential part of life at Villa Pia: we are extremely proud of our Italian chefs and the family friendly dishes they create daily.
Meal times at Villa Pia are a communal activity and our Italian cookery lessons always prove popular with guests.
Today, we’d like to share another recipe from the Villa Pia kitchen: Sugo di Carne or Ragu — better known in English as meat sauce.
Our easy Italian recipe for meat sauce is a simpler yet satisfying version of sauces like Napoletana or Bolognese that typically take hours to prepare and are served on more special occasions.
Sugo di Carne or Ragu
Ingredients: 250 grams of minced pork
250 grams of minced beef
1 carrot
1 onion
1 stick of celery
1 kg of tinned tomatoes
½ glass of white wine
oil, salt and pepper to your taste.
Mince up the carrot, celery and onion add 4 dessert spoons of olive oil to a frying pan, add the minced up vegetables and fry on a very low heat, add the meat and when this is well cooked add the wine and allow it to evaporate.
After this add the salt and pepper and the minced tomatoes and leave to simmer on a medium heat for 1 hour.
Buon appetito!

How great to make your own meat sauce rather than just serve jarred sauce! I will definitely try this one out next time.
